How Women Can Get Six Pack Abs, Even After 30

Many women complain that it’s a lot harder after you turn 30 to get what we call six pack abs.

First you need to determine where you are. If you have let’s say 28% body fat just know that your six pack abs won’t be visible until you get your body fat down. For women it is most likely in the lower teens.

What types of food do I need to be eating?

You should be eating lots of lean proteins like chicken, egg whites, and fish. Stay away from processed meats because they will affect your fat loss progress. Also, I teach women what I call 5 Star Foods, eating these foods will help in achieving your six pack abs. Foods are not all created equal so if you want the best results then you have to put the best fat-burning foods in your body. The breakdown of your foods is also important. Don’t make the mistake of eliminating all your complex carbohydrates either as it will impair your metabolism, but you will need to modify your intake. Every woman is different when putting this type of program together.

What types of exercise should I be doing?

I recommend fat-burning workouts. Doing workouts that are intense and lifting enough weight that is challenging is key.

What about cardio?

This is dependent on how much body fat you have. Some women will have to do more in order to get the results they want. Don’t make the mistake of just walking, this will not achieve those six pack abs. You need to do interval cardio to really get your body fat down and to start seeing those abs.

How long will it take depends on where you are. From there, you can put together a plan of action. Diet is crucial in sculpting those abs. Yes, you will have to be more disciplined in your eating. But, the good thing is that you can actually have a small treat every week while you begin your transformation.

You must be patient in the process and focus on your goal and don’t think just because you’re over 30 that you can’t accomplish this..because you can. The mind is actually the most important part in this process as it controls everything you do from exercising and eating exactly how you need to.

My whole focus in working with women is re-conditioning their mind to get the body they want. For example, I could give you the best six pack abs diet and exercise program but if you don’t have the right “brain software”, then you will fail to get the results you want so keep this in mind when you are setting your fitness goals.

I’m a beginner woman hiker and I need to buy an internal frame daypack, does it have to be a “women’s pack”?
I am currently deciding between a few options for daypacks for a week/end long trip and I see a lot of women’s packs are smaller than men’s. I don’t like the style at much, would it fit the same to get a "men’s" pack or even a non-specified gender pack? Are there any differences besides the cubic inches? I am 118lb 5’7".

Try them all on….pick what fits you best.

The larger a pack I take out on the trail…the more stuff I seem to cram into it. I will never learn…

If you have spare space in or on your pack…you will be carrying someone elses stuff before your hike is over.

The gender specific packs are made to fit the women’s body better, but until you try on a bunch of different packs, you will never know. Because I’m short(5’2") I often have a hard time finding things that fit me right including hiking shoes. So try some on. Also if you do not have hiking poles, I found them to be a big help. I use just one, but next year I will get a second one. I also recommend buying quick drying shorts or zip off pants. The less clothes you bring, the better it is for you.

I think backpacks are called "women’s" because they are cut somewhat differently to fit the female body. But the bottom line is that the best pack for you is the one that feels the best. You have to try packs on to get the best fit, and you need to do it at a store where the people know their stuff. I like REI the best, and I like Gregory packs the best, but that is just me. A good dealer will have some weights to lodd into the pack, and they’ll let you try on as many packs and as long as it takes you to be satisfied you’re getting the right fit. It’s also interesting that the most comfortable pack may not be the most expensive, just the one that works best for you. I also like a thick hip pad and waist belt.

The only thing I could add to what’s already been said is that the Women’s packs are geared to a shorter / smaller torso of the typical female. If you happen to have a longer torso than most women, or broader back, etc. a regular generic pack might be just fine.

The whole "women’s" packs thing is relatively new… and there is some marketing mumbo-jumbo in there. (Same for the women’s sleeping bags, etc.)

Like anything in sporting goods – if you don’t get a good fit, you risk being miserable on the trail.
